Mills’ emergency trip to US cannot be for business- Akomea

The Opposition New Patriotic Party is questioning the propriety of President John Mills' return trip to the US.

The president returned to the US on Christmas eve barely a week after a month’s trip to North America, including a two-week holiday in the US.
He had met US investors and business men with the New York Stock Exchange.

Director of Communications at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho told Joy News the president’s return trip is to firm up business transactions with a number of investors in the US who had lined up to meet President Mills.

He is expected to be out for ten days.

But the opposition NPP believes there is more to the return trip than government spokesperson would have Ghanaians believe.

Head of Communications of the NPP Nana Akomea told Joy News the reasons given by government for the trip are “not credible.”

Describing the trip as an “emergency one” Nana Akomea wondered how President Mills would be transacting business in US in a period where most business men are on the Christmas holidays.

He said the reasons will be tenable if Mills were to be travelling to China because the Chinese do not break for Christmas holidays.

He pointed out that government’s explanation on the matter is only fueling the suspicions people have about Mills state of health.

Nana Akomea said it will not be out of place for Mills to seek medical attention in the US, adding, he like all others is human and vulnerable to sickness.
